Linux Mint 6 Dazzles

t may be a WinTel world in the main, but once in a while we like to explore alternatives that offer advantages you won’t find on the Windows platform. This is one of those times. This month, we’ll get a look at a Linux distribution that offers elegance and practicality. Verne Perry, a long time Linux user and Jan Fagerholm, PCC Linux SIG leader, will show off Linux Mint 6. Slackware Linux 13.0 on MMS

I multi-boot openSolaris and several Linux distributions, and that only works using the GRUB from openSolaris, so I have to be careful not to replace that when I make a new installation. – The last time I looked at Slackware Linux, they still used the LILO bootloader. †So not only did I have to be careful not to overwrite the openSolaris GRUB, I would have to figure out how to boot Slackware from GRUB on my own. Test Driving Zenwalk 5.2 Beta GNOME Edition

This was my first ever adventure with a Slakware-based GNU/Linux distribution so I cannot say it has been an easy, effortless task, but that’s probably just my lack of experience, because, after I finished the installation and testing of Zenwalk 5.2 Beta GNOME edition, it all made much more sense. Still, I would have greatly appreciated a more intuitive installer which could guide through the steps (more…)
