This report outlines the findings from a study of the relationship between the learning, careers and life experiences of ‘non-traditional’ sociology students at a new university, Abertay Dundee. In a devolved government context, it also directly engages with the Scottish Executive’s (2003) ‘life-long learning’ strategy, whose stated aim is to create: A Scotland where people have the confidence, enterprise, knowledge, creativity and skills they need to participate in economic, social and civic life.
