Oil and Gas Resources of Northeast Greenland

A team of U.S. Geological Survey geologists has recently completed a new assessment of undiscovered oil and gas resources in northeastern Greenland. Following a press release in Washington, the results of the study were delivered on September 6 to scientists attending the Arctic Conference Days 2007 in Tromsø, Norway (www. geologi.no). The USGS is working on a comprehensive assessment (more…)

Accounting for Federal Oil and Gas Resources

What is the Board proposing? This exposure draft (ED) proposes accounting standards for federal oil and gas resources.1 The proposed standards would result in the recognition of an asset and a liability. The asset is referred to in this ED as “estimated petroleum royalties.” The asset’s value would be the royalty share of the federal oil and gas resources classified as “proved reserves.”2 The liability (more…)

REMAINING OIL AND NATURAL GAS RESOURCES OF NEW MEXICO

SUMMARY New Mexico has produced 5.2 billion bbls of crude oil and 56 trillion cubic ft3 of natural gas since production of these resources began in the 1920’s. During 2002, 67 million bbls oil and 1.6 trillion ft3 gas were produced in New Mexico. Available estimates of undiscovered resources indicate a minimum of 1.48 billion bbls oil and between 68 and 89 trillion ft3 gas remain to be produced in the state. That is (more…)
