Control System Design Considerations

The following is Part 1 of a four-part series of articles on Control System Design that can act as a general guide to the specification, design and installation of automated control systems. The information and references are presented in a logical order that will take you from the skills required to recognize an operation or process suited for automating, to tips on setting up a program, to maintaining the control system. (more…)

Control Systems Security Center Common Control System Vulnerability

The Control Systems Security Center (CSSC) and National SCADA Test Bed (NSTB) programs have discovered a vulnerability common to control systems in all sectors that allows an attacker to penetrate most control systems, spoof the operator, and gain full control of targeted system elements. This vulnerability has been identified on several systems that have been evaluated at INL, and in each case a 100% (more…)

Control System Upgrade Kit BEAMLOGIX

PCT Engineered Systems has responded to our customer’s requests and developed the BeamLogix control system upgrade kit for BroadBeam® electron beam processors. The original custom circuit boards are replaced by a PLC-based control system. An enhanced operator interface station is also provided as part of the kit. The new controls and operator screen are mounted in a compact, free-standing enclosure. (more…)

ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT DESIGN 3

1. Discrete Electronic Circuits Aims To introduce the principles of circuit design using discrete transistors. Objectives Understanding how transistors produce amplification. Why biasing is necessary. The distinction between large-signal and small-signal performance. Analysis and exploration of a range of typical circuit configurations. The factors affecting the frequency response of circuits. (more…)

Electronic Circuit Protection

Electronic circuit protection type ESX10-T is designed to ensure selective disconnection of 24VDC load systems. 24VDCpower supplies, which are widely used in industry today, will shut down the output in the event of an overload with the result that one faulty load in the system can lead to complete disconnection of all loads. Through selective disconnection the ESX10-T responds much faster to overload (more…)

GATE-CONTROLLED DIODE – A NEW WAY FOR ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

An electronic circuit component performs the active function if it has a power amplification greater than unity [1]. The gated diode is characterised by a very high power amplification gain. Firstly, it can mention the MOS input command that doesn’t consum power considering the gate currents very small. Secondly, the output is offered by a junction working in avalanche regime, where the currents (more…)

ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT DESIGN WITH HEP COMPUTATIONAL TOOLS

CPSPICE is an electronic circuit statistical simulation program developed to run in a parallel environment under UNIX operating system and TCP/IP communications protocol, using CPS { Cooperative Processes Software, SPICE program and CERNLIB software package. It is part of a set of tools being develop, intended to help electronic engineers to model and simulate complex systems and circuits for High Energy (more…)

Combinatorics at Electronic Circuit Realization in FPAA

Abstract: Our present work is to examine and offer an automatic electronic circuit construction solution which – using electronic devices and Field Programmable Analog Arrays (FPAA) – enables us to form analogue circuits. The automatic computer-assisted construction is an old endeavor in the electronic development of electronic circuit constructional tasks. The currently used constructional systems (more…)

Electronic Circuit Breaker in Small DFN Package Eliminates Sense Resistor

Traditionally, an Electronic Circuit Breaker (ECB) comprises a MOSFET, a MOSFET controller and a current sense resistor. The LTC®4213 does away with the sense resistor by using the RDS(ON) of the external MOSFET. The result is a simple, small solution that offers a signifi cant low insertion loss advantage at low operating load voltage. The LTC4213 features two circuit breaking responses to varying (more…)
