This document has been prepared to instruct CLTS users on configuring their computer to allow access to the CCIA’s Canadian Livestock Tracking System (CLTS) . This tutorial only applies to Apple Macintosh (commonly referred to as “Mac”) or IBM- Compatible (commonly referred to as “PC”) computers running the Safari web browser on Mac OS X, Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows Server 2003 and above. BACKGROUND: While Microsoft Windows is the computer operating system on a majority of computers, there are still many other users that prefer an Apple Macintosh computer. Apple’s current computer operating system is known as Mac OS X and the default web browser for Mac OS X is Safari. With Apple’s recent change to Intel processors from PowerPC (commonly referred to as “PPC”) processors, they have also released a version of the Safari web browser for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Safari is installed by default on Mac OS X, but users with Windows XP and Windows Vista can optionally install Safari on their computers as a separate download from Apple’s website. BROWSER REQUIREMENTS: Recent changes were made to the CLTS System to allow more web browsers to access the site with minimal problems. While other browsers, including Safari may work on the CLTS System; currently, only the following web browsers are officially supported: • Internet Explorer 5.0+: * This includes IE 7 on both Windows XP & Vista * Downloads are available for Windows ONLY • Mozilla Firefox 1.0+: * Available from www.mozilla.com * Downloads are available for Linux, Mac OS X & Windows. • Netscape Navigator 7.1+: * Available from www.netscape.com * Downloads are available for Linux, Mac OS X & Windows. In addition to the above browsers, the following options must be enabled: • Session and Persistent Cookies Enabled • JavaScript Enabled As the Safari web browser is not officially supported by the CLTS System, the CCIA recommends using any of the officially supported web browsers, available for the Mac OS X operating system to access the website…
